I have a degree so what's the use of an Academic Score?
Over the last 2 decades participation in tertiary education has increased dramatically. In today's competitive job market simply having a degree doesn't ensure you will get the job you want. Academic Score allows you to stand out from the rest.
How do I get an Academic Score?
Building an Academic Score is completely free. Once you input your academic information into the Academic Score Calculator you'll receive your Academic Score. You are then able to download and print your Official Academic Score Certificate for use in your CV. Once you have an Academic Score, your Academic Grade Score, and Academic Subject Score are also calculated for you- further scores to put you ahead of the pack in the job market, and to show your level of academic achievement. Who is eligible for an Academic Score?
Everyone who has completed at least one paper at a university. Academic Score rewards all academic achievement at undergraduate and honours level at any New Zealand university.
I'm an employer, how can an Academic Score help me find the best people?
Ever had the problem of receiving two very similar CV's? or 20 very similar CV's? both candidates have a degree, both have a little work experience. How do you tell them apart without wading through screeds of academic transcripts, expensive testing or interviews?
It's tough to recruit the right people but Academic Score can help. When you advertise a role you can require that all candidates attach their Academic Score to their CV or you can ask candidates with an Academic Score over a certain level to apply. By doing this, you'll be able to simply and fairly compare candidates' levels of academic achievement across all disciplines and all universities. The candidates with the highest Academic Scores are the ones that have achieved the highest academically. The Academic Subject Score and Academic Grade Score are valuable tools that will further assist in your recruitment process. (more…)
You will need to explain this to employers as you would if showing them your official university academic transcript. Academic Score records it as a C pass.
What if I have qualifications from two different universities?
Academic Score works for all New Zealand universities. The universities you have attended are recorded on your Official Academic Score Certificate. We are currently in the process of adding overseas universities to Academic Score.
Can't I be fraudulent and make up my Academic Score?
Yes, in the same way as you can make up a university degree that you don't have. In the end you get caught when your employer asks for your official university transcript. If you fake an Academic Score, you'll be found out when your employer checks your Academic Score against your university transcript. Academic Score takes no responsibility for fraud and advises all employers to check Academic Scores against academic transcripts as they currently do with degree certificates.
The discovery that any fraud occurred during an interview or job seeking process under New Zealand law is grounds for immediate dismissal. Being fraudulent is simply not worth it.
I'm a first year, is it worth me getting an Academic Score?
As a first year student, using your tertiary qualifications in the real world may seem far off. However, with an Academic Score you can show your level of academic achievement as soon as you have finished your first paper and this will be comparable to other students further through their academic career. If you achieve very highly you may even find two years into your degree you hold an Academic Score higher than some graduates. An increasing number of employers are interested in actively recruiting high achieving individuals straight out of first or second year because they often see on-the-job training as much more useful than a talented individual staying on at university.
All information given to Academic Score is protected by the Privacy Act. We will not give out or use your personal information in any way without your express permission.
Can you go to university and get a higher Academic Score by doing a few extra papers?
Yes. Academic Score is predicated on the belief that education continues throughout life, rather than simply stopping once you receive a degree. Academic Score rewards all academic achievement whether that be one additional paper to keep up with the play in a specific area of interest or ten papers to add a whole new area to your academic achievement profile. With Academic Score it is up to you.
